Tyler Shough leads the NFL with 662 passing yards through two weeks. He is one of only two quarterbacks who have thrown the ball 90 times already, and one of only five — alongside Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Brock Purdy and Bryce Young — to post 20-plus fantasy points in both games. The consensus rankings we froze for Week 3 have him tenth.
The gap is not about talent evaluation. It is about the fact that nobody drafted him, and rankings are slower to move than usage is. Shough opened with 410 yards and three touchdowns, then finished QB8 with 22.4 points in a Week 2 loss at Baltimore. Two different game scripts, the same answer: New Orleans throws, and it throws a lot.
The volume has a structural reason behind it. Jordyn Tyson is on injured reserve, which pushed Devaughn Vele into a full-time role — he caught seven of nine targets for 69 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 and added five more in Week 2. Chris Olave finished as the WR8 in Week 2 with 22.6 points. A quarterback with two receivers producing at that level and 45 attempts a game is not a streamer.
The case against is the obvious one: passing volume that comes from trailing is not the same as passing volume that comes from being good. New Orleans has been behind in stretches of both games, and Shough has thrown three interceptions. A positive game script against Las Vegas — the Saints are three-point favorites — could mean a quieter afternoon than the raw yardage suggests.
We will take that risk. A three-point spread is not a blowout, and 45 attempts a week is a floor that a matchup cannot easily take away. Our sheet has Shough as one of the six Must Starts at quarterback this week, ahead of both Justin Herbert, who is 0-2 and threw two interceptions in Week 2, and Bo Nix. If the consensus is right and he is the QB10, we will wear it on the Check Sheet next Tuesday.
